Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Monsanto Company, is currently supporting the development of a new generation of entrepreneurial farmers at Latia Resource Center. The Fund has provided support towards an Agricultural Apprenticeship program in line with its mission strengthening farming communities’ worldwide. The Apprenticeship is a 12 months program for youth with a passion for ag[] [/]riculture. The program was started to increase employment and improve incomes and livelihoods of youth in Kenya. During the first half of the program Apprentices receive practical training to equip them with technical and entrepreneurial competencies required to be successful in agriculture either as employed staff or self-employed business people. In the second half of the program Apprentices are assisted to get employment in farms and agribusinesses or to set up their own enterprises. In this phase Apprentices continue to receive on the job training and mentorship from Latia to ensure they settle in well and develop a good working relationship with their employers.
